Student membership

NTL organizes employees in the state sector and in enterprises with public affiliation. We have student memberships for all students who may end up in one of our workplaces.

Becoming a student member of an LO union is one of the smartest choices you can make during your studies. Together, we get higher wages, excellent member benefits, and a safer everyday life as a student.

Student membership in NTL costs only 250 NOK as a one-time fee for the entire duration of your studies (maximum five years), and is a great opportunity to get insurance both at work and in your spare time.

Eight good reasons to become a student member of NTL

1. Free home contents and legal insurance

As a student member of NTL, you receive free home contents insurance from Fremtind Forsikring and free legal insurance from Help. The home contents insurance covers items typically found in your home, such as a mobile phone, laptop, headphones, and tablet. Legal insurance protects you in a variety of private legal matters, such as problems with a landlord or the purchase and sale of goods and services.

If you study for more than five years, you must pay for the home contents insurance after this period.

2. Affordable travel insurance with LOfavør

As an NTL member, you are part of the benefit program for LO members, LOfavør. LOfavør's "Student Insurance" provides you with one of Norway's best deals on travel and accident insurance.

3. Access to the LOfavør benefit program

Through LOfavør, LO members gain access to discounts, banking benefits, and affordable insurance. This includes student prices at all Strawberry hotels (see prices here), a higher BSU interest rate at Sparebank 1, and one of the market's best mortgages for first-time buyers.

4. Help in working life from all LO unions

As an NTL member, you receive help with your employment relationship from all LO unions. With over 1,000,000 members and 65,000 shop stewards behind you, you are secure in your part-time job throughout your studies.

5. A trade union for the entire workplace

NTL believes that we are stronger together and therefore wants everyone at a workplace to be under the same trade union. While some unions only want members from one professional group, or only members with a master's degree, NTL wants to unite the entire workplace. This is how we ensure fair wage development for everyone.

6. Participate in courses and conferences with NTL and LO

NTL and LO organize many free courses and conferences for our members. Do you want to join a trip abroad with professional development? Discuss and adopt policy at the NTL Youth conference?

See NTL's course calendar here: Courses

7. Meet employers and get ready for working life

All student members in LO get access to LO's career portal and can participate in workplace visits and meetings with employers that are arranged throughout the year.

8. Help shape policy in Norway's most powerful organization

As a student member of NTL, you can help shape policy in LO. NTL is one of the largest unions in LO and works for a fair and green working life in Norway.

The insurance policies in the membership are included for up to five years, or until you finish your studies.

The home contents and legal insurance are included in the student membership. In addition, student members can order LOfavør's Student and Apprentice Insurance, which contains both travel insurance and accident insurance. This is a unique insurance package created for those who are students or apprentices.

To be a student member, your income must not exceed the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund's (Lånekassen) income limit for the maximum grant.

Are you studying abroad?
All Norwegian students abroad can be members of NTL, provided that what they are studying is relevant to the workplaces NTL organizes, and that there is an intention to work in Norway after the study period. This applies whether you are on an exchange for a semester or are taking a full degree abroad.
