Price overview

Employee

As an employee, you pay 1.1 percent of your gross salary in membership dues. In addition, there are premiums for collective insurance. Usually, your employer deducts both the dues and the insurance premiums directly from your salary each month.

Student

As a student member, you only pay 250 kroner for your entire period of study for up to five years. This amount includes both LOfavør contents insurance and legal insurance from HELP. If you study for more than five years, you will pay for the insurance after this period.

Associate member

Dual members pay 1.1 percent of their gross salary from the employment relationship in the NTL-organized business. This normally applies to you if you have a part-time position in addition to other work.

Apprentice

As an apprentice, you only pay 42 kroner per month. This amount covers your membership, LOfavør contents insurance, and legal insurance from HELP. As an apprentice, you have the same rights as regular members of NTL.

Unemployed, laid off, and similar

If you become unemployed or laid off, you only pay a fixed monthly affiliation fee plus your insurance premiums. It is important that you notify NTL if your situation changes, so that we can adjust your membership.

Pensioner

As a pensioner, you do not pay any membership dues, but you cover your own insurance premiums.

Members who become pensioners from January 1, 2024, retain their home contents insurance under the same terms as active employees, but receive an annual invoice. For those who became pensioners before December 31, 2023, the union pays for the insurance until LO's free offer for those over 75 takes effect. A prerequisite for this is that you have been a member and paid for the insurance for ten consecutive years as an active employee or pensioner.

Self-employed

Self-employed individuals pay 1.1 percent of five times the National Insurance basic amount (5 G) in membership fees.

How much does the insurance cost?

Insurance premiums are adjusted annually. You can always find an updated overview of current prices for contents, travel, and legal insurance on our own insurance pages.

More about the membership

When do the membership and insurance policies take effect?

Your insurance policies start as soon as you have submitted your application, provided that your membership is approved by us.

To have full rights in the organization, you must have paid the first membership fee. This means that you can vote in elections or be elected to a position in NTL as soon as the payment has been registered.

Transfer between LO unions

If you are switching from another LO union to NTL or vice versa, for example when changing jobs, NTL can arrange the transfer so that you avoid any gaps in your membership or insurance coverage.

Let us know when you sign up or cancel your membership, and we will arrange the transfer in cooperation with the other union.

Membership card

We no longer issue physical membership cards.

When you join NTL, you can download your digital membership card in the LOfavør app. There, you will also find detailed information about your insurance policies. You can read more about the membership card on our website.

How do I pay the membership fee?

The vast majority of members have their membership dues deducted directly from their salary. If you change jobs, you must therefore notify NTL as early as possible so that we have time to arrange the deduction agreement with your new employer without any interruption in your membership.

Students, retirees, and others who are not currently employed pay via eFaktura or invoice by email. This also applies to employed members who, for various reasons, are not covered by a payroll deduction scheme.

Related to an NTL member?

If you live with someone who is a member of NTL, you may be covered by some of our schemes. Read more about this here.

Switching from a trade union outside the LO

If you switch to NTL from a union outside of LO, and you have a notice period in your old union, you will receive a membership fee exemption from NTL for up to three months. The exemption is intended to cover the notice period.
This is a one-time benefit for newly enrolled members. You cannot apply for a refund of membership fees for an enrollment that took place a long time ago.

How to get the exemption

To be granted the exemption, the documentation must be sent to NTL as soon as possible after your enrollment date in NTL.

We need the following documentation:

  • A copy of the resignation confirmation from the other union.
  • Confirmation of the date you resigned (resignation date).
  • Confirmation of the length of the notice period in your old union.

Send the documentation to NTL at kont@ntl.no.

What does the exemption cover?

  • Membership fees during the notice period.
  • Insurance premiums for home contents insurance and legal insurance during the period.

The exemption does not apply to insurance premiums for travel insurance. If you want travel insurance with your membership, you must pay for it from day one.

Who can become an associate member?

If you have two jobs and one is within NTL's area while the other is outside, you can become a dual member. This assumes that you are already a member of another LO union related to your other employment. As a general rule, you should be a primary member of the union where you have the largest percentage of a full-time position.

Have you retired? Are you disabled or receiving work assessment allowance (AAP)?

Remember to notify NTL if you become a pensioner, disabled, or receive work assessment allowance (AAP). This is important so that we can register the correct membership status and ensure that you pay the correct membership fee.

Read more about the terms and conditions, and what you need to remember to do: Terms for pensioners, disabled, and AAP recipients.

How to unsubscribe?

To resign from NTL, you can do the following:

  • Written resignation: Write your resignation on a piece of paper, sign it, and send a scanned copy or photo to kont@ntl.no.
  • Resignation via "My pages": Log in to "My pages" and send a message to Norsk Tjenestemannslag.

The resignation is effective either from the last day of the month you leave your job, or from the end of the current quarter, depending on the situation.

Note: The resignation must be sent directly to the membership fee department, not to local branches or other organizational units.
